Teacher Left Hospital in Tears After Reading the Prescription From Her Surgeon

A perfect example of honor and gratitude

School taught us many things. As a child, it’s the happiest place in the world because it’s where you meet your friends and playmates. And it can be the greatest place to grow and learn when you have a wonderful teacher.

Every student has their own favorite teacher in school that they will never forget as they go through with life.  Someone who made an impact on them or became a mentor. Maya Angelou was right when she said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

And maybe, Dr. Dilbert Monicit never forgot how his teacher, Virginia Robles made him feel when he was still a student.

For several years, Virginia Robles has been a high school teacher in Mandaue, Cebu, Philippines. It has always been a delight for her to see her students become successful in life. Like many teachers, the achievements of her students gave Virginia great pride.

One day, Virginia was hospitalized due to a broken arm and went to Perpetual Succour Hospital. Upon checking out at the nurse station, she was shocked after seeing what was written on her bill:

“Professional fee paid twenty-two years ago (one of my favorite teacher!).”

Unbeknown to her, a former student, Dilbert Monicit, was now a surgeon in that hospital.

Dr. Dilbert, after finding out that the patient was his favorite teacher, immediately waived his professional fee.

Virginia expressed her gratitude to her former student in a Facebook post saying:

“Just checked out of Perpetual Succour Hospital. I got this note from the nurses’ station. Thank you for the early Christmas gift, Dr. Dilbert Monicit. Thank you for being there. It really made me teary-eyed when I read it. I thought it was for my medication because it was on a prescription paper.”
